Themed Weddings!

As a Celebrant it is inbuilt in me to believe that every couple should get to have the day of their dreams. A Celebrant ensures the service is personal, true to the couple and totally unique. And the day of your dreams should be just that- your dreams and nobody else’s.
Not her Mums or his mates! But truly for the couple as a duo.
Which brings me nicely onto themed weddings. The phrase themed weddings will give a chill to the traditionalists. But when I talk theme it can be as subtle or as complete as you wish. The point is it is something relevant to you as a couple.
For some the theme can be as simple as a colour- so maybe pink bridesmaid’s dresses and flowers running through to favours and subtle touches.
But for some it can be a complete element… think Harry Potter décor! Maybe tables named after each house and combined with what they represent? Gryffindor representing fire, Hufflepuff for the Earth, Ravenclaw for air and Slytherin for water. The possibilities are just endless.
For some it may be more than just colours and décor and more a total experience. A festival wedding can lend itself perfectly for those who love going to Reading or Glastonbury! With a Celebrant you can get married in a field, barn or anywhere that invokes happy memories of festival days. From décor to vows it can be incorporated however you want. No limits!
Maybe Games of Thrones was the first series you watched as a couple. Moved by the love story of Rob Stark and Talisa? The wording of their ceremony, featuring a hand tying could be recited during your vows.
“In the sight of the Seven, I hereby seal these two souls, binding them as one for eternity. Look upon one another and say the words.”
“Father. Smith. Warrior. Mother. Maiden. Crone. Stranger. I am his/hers, and s/he is mine, from this day, until the end of my days.”
When I married my husband he wanted to incorporate his love of superheroes somehow. I was not as keen so we compromised and our elegant, traditional cake had a surprise twist. The front was your usual pretty wedding cake but the back had a different superhero on each layer! For the photographs I had my traditional wish and Matt got to inject some of his personality too!
The reason I believe so deeply in giving couples the choice of having exactly what they want is why I am a Celebrant. I have been to far too many weddings where it is obvious the choices have been made because one or both have felt they ‘had’ to do something because of either someone influencing them or because they felt they ‘should’ do it that way. But that just isn’t the case. Your wedding should be representative of you both as a couple and as individuals. Even if you are not keen on the full themed wedding you should be able to incorporate some of your personality into your big day!
Don’t walk into your venue on the day and not be completely sure that this is your wedding! Ensure you can tell it’s where you are meant to be and that you are totally comfortable.
Oh and if you want me or any Celebrant to be part of that theme, just ask! As long as everyone feels comfortable I am more than happy to participate! In fact go on challenge me to something new!
